Speeding in SF? Say Cheese—And Get Ready for a Ticket
If you feel like Big Brother is watching lately, that’s because he is, Between red-light cameras, bus lane cameras, and now speed cameras, The City is keeping a very close eye on its streets. And for the lead-footed among us, things are about to get a little more expensive.
San Francisco is rolling out new speed cameras that will automatically issue tickets, making it even harder to get away with cruising a little too fast down our busiest corridors. Unlike traditional enforcement, where an officer has to catch you in the act, these cameras run 24/7, snapping photos of speeders and mailing out fines faster than you can say “California rolling stop.” The goal is to curb reckless driving and reduce traffic fatalities.
The cameras are part of a five-year pilot program aimed at tackling the city's most dangerous roads. The first batch of cameras will be installed in the Mission, SoMa, and the Tenderloin, with more locations coming soon. So slow down, or consider your speeding ticket a mandatory contribution to The City’s budget.

But hey, if you find yourself cruising down Geary between 7th and 8th Avenue, don’t worry—there’s something way more fun than a speeding ticket coming soon to that block. Check back at the end of February to see what’s in store. 😉
Until then, drive safe, keep your eye on the road (and the cameras), and maybe ease up on that gas pedal. 🚦📸
